Whitby Christmas Festival 2019
November 15 - November 17
Whitby’s Christmas Festival will open on Friday evening with the annual switch on of the town’s Christmas lights.
On Friday 15th November local musicians, the Eskuleles will be performing on the Yorkshire Coast Radio stage as local primary school children and their families gather in Pannett Park ready for the spectacular lantern parade. Once again Santa will be joining the procession and this year they will also be accompanied by a group of young musicians from West Cliff Primary School who have been working with Whitby Musicport to develop a lively band with a festive groove.
Throughout the evening a series of guests including Channel 4 News Chief Correspondent Alex Thomson will be welcomed on to the Yorkshire Coast Radio stage and the popular local 9 piece band Back in The Habit will have the audience dancing as they perform their wonderful soul, funk, blues and disco inspired tunes.
On Saturday 16th a magnificent firework display will bring the evening to a close at 7.45pm and everyone is invited to join Abigail Hall and her Pop Choir at 3pm on Sunday 17th for a festive sing song to close the event.
Throughout the weekend there will be a diverse range of entertainment on the Festival Stage, including local bands, dance companies, drama groups and entertainers. There will also be a fantastic Christmas Market with a range of stalls on the festival site, offering fabulous foods from around the world, alongside crafts and gifts to suit all tastes and budgets.
Many local community organisations and businesses are staging events around Whitby as part of the festival. The festival is supported by The National Lottery Community Fund, thanks to National Lottery Players, and many more businesses have provided help or financial support to help make sure the festival is a success.
