Ideal for dogs
The house is on Cleveland Terrace, just a three-minute walk to the harbour and the centre of town. Benefiting from a sunny south facing patio complete with garden furniture and BBQ.
The front and back yards are artificially lawned for your convenience – ideal for your dog to roam free in safety in the enclosed back garden.
You can enter Navy House from two levels since the house is built on a hill. As is typical of Victorian Terraces there are many stairs.
The three flights of stairs in the house are fairly steep, as is typical of Victorian-era homes. An important consideration for those with mobility issues.
As a port town where the moors meet the sea, Whitby is naturally hilly. It is characteristic of the town for there to be some climbs but the road from the harbour to Cleveland Terrace does get steep at a couple of points.
Due to the stairs in the house, it may not be suitable for very young children or toddlers. Child stair gates can be loaned if needed.
The elderly or infirm may find the location a challenge and the stairs could present a difficulty if uncertain of balance.

On the ground floor
The entrance to the house from Cleveland Terrace leads to a large Victorian drawing room with Smart TV, DVD player and a wood-burning stove.
Painted in Farrow & Ball Stiffkey blue paint, the drawing room has a traditional maritime feel. Finished with antique furniture, coastal finds and local artwork, this is a wonderful space to share a family meal.
The second reception room on this floor, the snug, has a new wood-burning stove TV and DVD player.
The dual living spaces are ideal for two families sharing, or better still, one for the children and one for the adults!
The kitchen & dining area
Downstairs from the lounges is the huge basement kitchen/diner which has been completely renovated.
The mod cons include a 5 burner gas hob, two Bosch single ovens, dishwasher fridge and freezer and a microwave oven. Perfect for preparing the family feast.
The dining table seats 8 people and a third wood-burning stove is on hand to warm the area for cosy evenings in. For large groups, there is also a table with bench seating which can accommodate for 14 – 16 people if required.
Everything in the kitchen is brand new; plenty of glassware, cutlery, porcelain dinnerware etc. There is a kettle, 4 slice toaster, sandwich maker, Dualit hand mixer, slow cooker and brand new Tefal cookware.
Beyond the kitchen is a utility room with a washing machine and a second larder fridge.
The back yard has a patio table and chairs where you get the sunshine first thing in the morning. The yard is secure making it ideal for storing bikes, beach equipment and can be used to drop off shopping at the back door.
The secure yard makes Navy House super dog-friendly since its safe and secure. Sandy shoes and dirty wellies and walking boots can be hosed off with the outside tap.
This pet-friendly holiday home has three wood-burning stoves, which you are most welcome to use. We do not provide logs or kindling – bring these yourselves or purchase locally from a supermarket.
Please refer to the instruction manual if you are not used to using a log burner – so you don't set off the fire alarms!
The back yard has a security keypad on the door. This mean that things can be kept in the yard safely. You enter this back yard from the rear of Esk Terrace.
On the first floor
There is a newly refurbished bathroom with an over the bath power shower, WC and washbasin.
On the second floor
Up the stairs from the first floor there are two kingsize bedrooms.
These rooms are kitted out to a very high standard with antique furniture and Victorian cast iron fireplaces.
Fit for a King (& Queen)
The sumptuous king-size beds benefit from brand new hotel contract grade comfortable mattresses and white Egyptian cotton bed linen.
There is the main house bathroom on this floor, again with over-bath power shower, WC and basin.
To the attic
A small staircase leads to the converted attic space. Furnished with four full-size single beds and an ensuite with a WC and washbasin the attic s a wonderful place to sleep.
Contract grade mattresses and Egyptian cotton bed linen top the beds for that extra comfortable night's sleep.
Let’s go outside
The front of the property benefits from an artificially grassed area – perfect for playing children or pets to stretch their legs.
A sunken patio is a real sun trap. This south-facing space has wooden garden seating, umbrella, gas BBQ and plenty of fairy lights.
