Seagull & Eastern Lighthouse, Illustrated Print by Amanda Bradley

The Whitby Wildlife Collection | The Eastern lighthouse & The Ghost of Sylvia Swales

Whitby folklore says that its Eastern Lighthouse is haunted by a girl called Sylvia Swales. The phantom tale is that of twin brothers who had a boat race to see who would have Sylvia’s hand in marriage. Tragically both were killed after their boats capsized and were swept out to sea. Sylvia blamed herself and never married. Her ghost looks out to sea searching, and maybe waiting, for the twins.

This print is one in an exclusive illustration series inspired by Whitby and North Yorkshire's coastal heritage, wildlife and folklore. Each design illustrates part of the area's famous history or a local folk tale.
