Whitby Seafood

As an island nation, the British Isles’s main contribution to world cuisine is arguably its seafood.

From the famous national dish of fish and chips to the plethora of shellfish; lobster, crab, mussels, cockles and whelks, the English appetite for the fruits of the sea is unceasing. Many inner-city restaurants may claim that they alone serve the best in seafood – hundreds of miles from the coast? We think not! It is on England’s coasts that fisherman’s knowledge of the sea and its bounty has throughout history, woven itself from boat to plate.

Nowhere is this marriage between the sea and the kitchen more evident than in the seaside town of Whitby. Whitby’s long-established location as a fishing village has created a rich culture of seafood cooking, matched by a very few. From its humble fish and chip shops and waterfront stalls to its high-end seafood restaurants, Whitby has it all. With an overwhelming choice on offer, we have provided a list of the best places in Whitby to sample its seafood delights

Now it has added much more to its extensive menu. Sample their fresh mussels, seafood pots, Lobster Thermidor, and much more. The Magpie Cafe also developed menus incorporating steak dishes for those who want something a little less fish-based.
