Wheelchair & Mobility Scooter hire through Whitby, Scarborough, and Ryedale DAG
Whitby, Scarborough and Ryedale DAG seeks to enable disabled people to live as independently as possible, making informed choices through access to services and information.
Whitby Mini Guide
We have created a FREE mini-guide with all the essential information about Whitby, now available for instant download.
For hire, they provide self-propelled wheelchairs, manual push wheelchairs, all-terrain/beach wheelchairs, and 4-wheeler mobility scooters. They also offer wheeled walkers on a loan basis, which can be incredibly helpful for short-term use. For added convenience, all the scooters come equipped with backpacks/stickholders. All mobility equipment is fully insured to use in the UK. Giving you peace of mind during your rental period.
Wheelchair hire is available through Whitby, Scarborough and Ryedale Disability Action Group.
Wheelchairs
There are a variety of wheelchairs for hire. This includes six self-propelled wheelchairs and eight attendant push wheelchairs from top brands such as Roma Medical, Drive Medical, Casa Move, Electric Mobility, Medicare, Invacare, and Days Medical. All the wheelchairs are suitable for use by adults, with the self-propelled models being pushable by a carer/attendant and the wheelchair user.
For all wheelchairs, the maximum user weight limit is 18 stone/114 kilos, with a standard seat width of 18″/45 cm. One of the attendant push wheelchairs has a wider 20″/50 cms seat, while the Casa Move self-propel chair has a narrower 16″/40 cms width, making it suitable for smaller adults and older children.
The wheelchairs can be transported easily. All wheelchairs have slightly padded seats or cushions and are fitted with seatbelts, ensuring a comfortable and secure ride. Additionally, some self-propelled chairs have quick-release back wheels, making them more convenient to transport.
They provide two all-terrain wheelchairs to tackle even the most challenging outdoor environments. The Landeez and the Hippocampe models. They are both ideal for use on the beach, rocky shores, and the countryside. The Landeez chair is suitable for adults and children, while the Hippocampe has been designed for children (2 years +) and young adults or adults of smaller stature. These chairs can be pushed by an attendant/carer, and the wheelchair user should never be left unattended.
With the Landeez, you can even venture into shallow water, up to 6 inches/15 cm deep. The Hippocampe is perfect for those who want to enjoy the sea, as it can float and be taken into the water. In addition, they can provide a detachable harness and detachable head and neck support upon request. Both chairs' maximum user weight limit is 23 stone/146 kilos.
