We stayed at Broadings Farm, which has both hard-standing pitches and cottages. It was perfect for exploring Whitby. Here’s our review of Broadings Farm.
Broadings Farm is a working farm on the edge of the North York Moors and spans three fields. From here, you can walk or get a bus into Whitby. We stayed in one of the fantastic cottages and would love to stay on the site in our campervan in the Summer. Here’s our review of Broadings Farm.

The site is open from March 1st until October 31st every year.

They feature six well-maintained cottages on site. They are available all year round.
Broadings Farm Caravan Site Pitches
Broadings Farm has received fantastic reviews. It has 80+ pitches for caravans, campervans, and motorhomes. Unfortunately, they do not accept tents of any type. All of the pitches are hard-standing and offer electric hook-ups. The site does accept awnings, but they must always be attached to the vehicle and supported by guy ropes, including the ‘driveaway’ type.

Site facilities
The site features 3 Elsan waste points and a drive-over motorhome grey-waste water facility.
Facilities are conveniently located in the centre, with two toilets and shower blocks open 24 hours daily. In case one block is closed, the other one remains open.
The site’s newest facility block includes laundry facilities where you can find washers, dryers, and pot wash areas.

Pets are welcome
Whitby and the surrounding area are very pet-friendly! Pets are welcome at this site, but to ensure everyone’s comfort, they kindly request you to keep them on a lead and clean up after them. There is a field on site for walking with beautiful views.
Broadings Farm Cottages
We stayed at Broadings Farm as we had a few events booked during October.

Convenient location
We found the site very conveniently located just a mile from Whitby. We were happy to walk down into the town, and with a 6-year-old with us, it took us around 30 minutes to reach Whitby Harbour.
The walk back is quite steep, but there is a shortcut that cuts out part of the hill and makes this slightly easier. We got a taxi several times when it was raining, and we had been out all day; it cost roughly £8 one way.

Buses and park and ride
The site is on the X93 bus route, providing convenient transport to Scarborough and Guisborough. You can find the bus stop just a 5-minute walk from the site.
Additionally, Broadings Farm is situated just a 5-minute walk away from the park and ride that operates from Easter until the end of October. The park-and-ride facility is free to park and charges per person. The bus from the park and ride goes directly into the town centre.
Six modern holiday cottages
Broadings Farm offers six beautifully modern holiday cottages, including two slightly older ones, Whalebone (sleeps 8) and Broadings Bungalow (sleeps 4), which have been hosting visitors for over 20 years. These cottages are well-maintained, with recent updates to bathrooms and living areas.

The four new cottages, all on the ground floor and with open-plan living spaces, each have two bedrooms and comfortably accommodate four people. The newly opened Ships Wheel and Cart Wheel cottages welcomed their first guests in April 2021, followed by the latest additions, Stag and Abbey View Cottages, which opened to guests in late August 2021.
All of the cottages at Broadings Farm are dog-friendly and come with washing machine facilities, private gardens, and off-road parking.
We stayed in Broadings Cottage

We loved being close enough to walk into Whitby but conveniently close to the main roads leading to other beautiful places in Yorkshire, such as Robins Hood Bay. The information file provided was excellent and helped us plan forest and stream walks, which we thoroughly enjoyed.
We appreciated The cottage’s traditional feel with wooden beams and other character features. It was not just beautiful but also spotlessly clean and comfortable. The under-floor heating was great and kept us warm on cooler October days.

Visit Ruswarp
Just a 20-minute walk or a few-minute drive from Broadings Farm is Ruswarp, which is lovely to walk to and explore.
Ruswarp is a charming small village that boasts a range of local shops. You can eat and drink at the lovely Bridge Inn pub. Although the heritage steam train services from Pickering to Whitby pass through Ruswarp, unfortunately, they don’t stop at the Ruswarp platform.

Larpool Viaduct
One of the most notable landmarks in Ruswarp is Larpool Viaduct. This viaduct was previously a crucial support system for the Scarborough to Whitby railway line and stands tall at 120 feet. The construction of this viaduct required over five million bricks. Although closed in 1965, it continues to be an iconic structure, now used as the Cinder Track – a popular walk/cycleway along the former Whitby-to-Scarborough railway line.
Ruswarp Pleasure Boats
Ruswarp Pleasure Boats were established in 1874; you can rent rowing boats or canoes to explore the sheltered waters here. This company offers a unique opportunity to access Yorkshire’s only migratory salmon river. It is also lots of fun and great for photos.
