Melton's
Michael and Lucy Hjort opened Melton's, a fine dining restaurant, in 1990. It is a longstanding destination for fantastic food in York. Melton's is featured in all the major food guides and has two AA Rosettes. They are renowned for serving high-quality, modern British food. Run by Head Chef Calvin Miller, the menu reflects the fantastic quality of the local food available. Michael's wife, Lucy, is behind the ever-changing wine list. We have to mention the desserts here are unforgettable.

The Rattle Owl
The Rattle Owl is located on one of York's most historic streets and is firmly featured in The Good Food Guide. If it's fine dining with a relaxed atmosphere, you are after The Rattle Owl, led by Head Chef Tom Heywood, is an excellent option housed in a restored Grade II* listed building. Their menu combines Yorkshire's local produce with a wine list to complement their menu.
Reviews boast about how innovative the tasting menu here is; they feature two tasting menus, a four-course tasting menu for £50 per person and an eight-course menu for £90 per person. In addition, a tasting menu is available for vegetarians, and they can accommodate gluten, nut and shellfish allergies.

Legacy at The Grand
Legacy shows off at the 5* Grand Hotel with an 8-course taster Yorkshire-inspired menu and an impressive wine list. Located right in the heart of York on Micklegate, Fish and Forest is a small and friendly restaurant that serves sustainable fish, game and forest food. They are passionate about sustainability; it is at the core of everything they do. The service here is exceptional; you feel genuinely welcomed into the restaurant, which is refreshing for somewhere with many food awards. Roots
Roots is the sister restaurant to the well-known restaurant The Black Swan at Oldstead; both own a prestigious Michelin Star. So sit back and be genuinely wined and dined here. This is laid-back fine dining in York at its very best.

The Star Inn The City
The Star Inn the City is a multi-award-winning restaurant on the banks of the River Ouse. They offer exquisite modern cuisine in an idyllic riverside location. They aim to bring a taste of the countryside to the city. Inspired by the vision of Andrew Pern of the Michelin-starred Star Inn at Harome and seaside favourite The Star Inn The Harbour, they serve seasonal dishes made from the finest local ingredients.

The Black Swan at Oldstead
Not in the centre of York, but worth so worth heading out to visit. The Black Swan at Oldstead shows off the most stunning views of North Yorkshire. They are located between the impressive Byland Abbey ruins and the Kilburn White Horse. The Black Swan at Oldstead offer a tasting menu which is the perfect way to celebrate a special occasion. After winning many awards, including a Michelin Star, four AA Rosettes they are named TripAdvisor as the ‘Best Restaurant in the World.
