How to get to Whitby from York by car or bike

Follow the A64 from York; then, you can take the A169 from Malton. You will then go through Pickering and across the beautiful North York Moors. Make sure to stay on the 169 down Blue Bank. You will head through Sleights and up the other side of the valley to a roundabout connecting you with the A171. Turn right, and follow the road into town.

Parking in Whitby

Getting the bus on the Coastliner service from York to Whitby is a great option. The bus will expose you to some of the most stunning views while you make your way to Whitby. Ride the North Yorkshire Moors Railway

One of our favourite ways to get to Whitby is on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway; it’s a great way to enjoy the journey and the scenic views. However, you will need first to make your way to Pickering, which you can do via the bus mentioned above. Then take the steam train service across the North York Moors to Grosmont. Here you must change trains and travel the last 10 miles into the centre of the town. Grosmont and Pickering’s stations were used as locations for the production of some of the Harry Potter movies.
