Whilst it is named after him, Robin Hood never went there. The closest he got was in an old English ballad. In this Robin encounters pirates who come to pillage the villages boats and coast. Of course, Robin saves the day and returns all the pirates loot to the poor!

Robin Hood aside, the bay and village are famous for their history of smuggling which was rife in the 18th century. It is also the place that can lay claim to a large number of fossils being found there. Places of interest surrounding Robin Hood’s Bay include Scarborough, Filey, Staithes and the North York Moors.
